I use a word for everything in the Bandele Muse Universe that is built to carry memory: Smart Heirloom. Smart has two meanings for me. Smart in the way something built in 3026 is smart. Advanced, deliberate, and ahead of its time. And smart in the older sense, too. Intelligent enough to know that advancement is not worth much if it costs you everything that made you.
Most of what I have shown you so far moves in one direction: forward. The clothing is carried back from the year 3026, worn by the travelers, delivered into now.
But smart was never only about the future. Some of these pieces move the other way instead. Out of the deep past, made of things that were already old before Bandele Muse existed. Vintage African beads. Palm nuts. Symbols that belonged to Chiefs and Queen Mothers long before I was born. Nothing advanced about where they come from. They're smart in the other sense. Old enough to already know exactly what a soul is worth holding onto.
That is the jewelry.
To wear one is to hold both kinds of smart at once. It is kind of like "Sankofa" worn on the body: go back and fetch what was left behind.
You can start here.
Let me show you three.
The beads that made the journey home

This Bead Necklace is made from authentic vintage African Egedaworgbor beads, handmade in Ghana. In the Ewe tradition, these beads carry one specific meaning: they honor those who journeyed to Accra and made it back home.
I think there is a kind of person who carries home inside of them, wherever they go. At least, that is how I feel. Home is within me. If you know that feeling, you already know it is not nostalgia. It's closer to a compass built into the body, quietly pointing to the same direction no matter where you're standing.
That's what this bead already understood, long before Bandele Muse existed.
The legend you are allowed to finish

The Legend Bracelet is made from the palm nuts of the Buri tree. Every part of that tree gets used for food, furniture, jewelry, etc. This is why the beads carry the meaning of rebirth: nothing is wasted, and everything is transforming into something else.
Engraved on each bead are two figures: an ancient dragon and an ancient bird. These are old African symbols, and they carry many legends. Here is what I love most about this piece. I'm not going to tell you which legend is the right one.
The interpretation is left to you. You wear it, and you decide what the dragon and the bird are saying to each other. It's wearable art built to start a conversation, and the conversation is different for every person who puts it on.
The map is written in the stars

The Constellation Earrings are made of gold-plated brass, and they do a specific job in this collection: they look up to the stars.
Every crossing needs a map, and for most of human history the map was the stars. Constellations are the oldest technology we have for finding our way home. That's the thread that ties the ancient beads to a universe set a thousand years in the future: the same sky, the same act of looking up and deciding which light to follow.
Where to begin
Every piece of jewelry is one-of-a-kind and limited edition. When a bead is gone, that particular journey is gone with it.
If you want the story these pieces are part of, the travelers, the year 3026, why any of this exists, subscribe to the newsletter below, and I will send you the next transmission.
Then, when you are ready, pick the piece that is already holding your story. It's usually more obvious than you think.
Follow me home.
Take care and be safe,
